We live within a marina. Since the buildings in this adult lifestyle community are surrounded by water and canals, the complex is called Venetian Village, named after the timeless and romantic Italian city. Can you imagine any place more beautiful? (unless of course you live in Venice)
Venetian Village is fashioned after the vernacular of the Maritimes, with a New England sea coast motif. The upper condominium units have secluded deck areas that are elevated for privacy, while overlooking the walkways and boatwells. The Village is laid out in an informal plan with colored siding in selected 18th Century pigments, white trim and cedar shake roofs. Being adjacent to one of Canada's largest and most beautiful marinas, Bridgeview Marina, Venetian Village is a boat lover's delight with direct access to the Great Lakes. Sometimes called the Inland Sea, it is the largest freshwater body in the world.

But it’s not all water. The protected courtyards funnel the sun into calm and peaceful gardens with beautiful plants of all types bursting forth with color and fragrance. The view from our bedroom windows, enhanced by the morning sunshine, persuades you to linger and absorb the quiet splendor.
You may notice; just as in Venice Italy, there are no cars in any of the pictures. This is because they are parked securely and safely underground, below the complex. An elevator brings you conveniently to the “station” in the center of the village courtyard. This absence of automobiles greatly enhances the peaceful experience of living in a place where noise and pollution are minimized and no views are obstructed by parked autos.
We are located in a very exciting part of the Great Lakes.The St. Clair River is not much wider than a football field beneath the Blue Water Bridge, but it's 80 feet deep and carries a volume of water greater than the Mississippi at St. Louis. Ninety million gallons of fresh, clean water a minute. A million and a half gallons in one second! Most of this water eventually cascades over the majestic Niagara Falls after traversing the St. Clair River, Lake St. Clair, the Detroit River, and Lake Erie.
There is a resort feel to this whole region. The county boasts 45 beautiful white sandy beaches and 22 public golf courses and our Point Edward Casino. You can easily walk to the casino from our complex.
Shopping in two countries on the same day is normal since amazing stores in both Canada and the USA are merely minutes away.
All the suites face the central courtyard giving the appearance of a small village street but from the living room, den and balcony you are rewarded with a beautiful 2nd story view of the bridge and canal with your dock. All the units are different both outside and inside, so there's no "cookie cutter" monotony here. Every season brings it's own special ambiance to our little village by the sea. Our home, among the largest in the complex, is the yellow number W37 shown in the image above. |

In the past, this was a formal dining room. Sometimes it's nice to be able to close the doors and create two, more private areas, especially when house guests need space of their own or when children come to visit. With the glass doors open, the room becomes a popular place during a dinner party.
A nice feature of this room is a beautiful built in bar and buffet unit. Several TV cable and telephone outlets throughout allow this room to serve as a den.
A cathedral ceiling complete with skylight, combined with the light neutral colors yield spacious brightness to the living room/great room area. Beyond the working fireplace, a large adjacent deck with gas grill and a table with four chairs offers an attractive invitation to wander outside on a nice day or evening. View the canal with your boat docked below and the Bluewater Bridge in the background.
A bright, modern kitchen features a Corian pass through bar to the great room adjacent and is conveniently located right across from the dining area. A large, combination microwave/convection oven is built in.
An intimate dining room for up to 6 people is situated in it's own private spot directly across from the kitchen. The grouping of the pantry, the kitchen, the dining room and the mainfloor laundry/utility/storage room in one central area, allows a very efficient use of space and affords a layout that works for entertaining with the least amount of effort.
Our guest bathroom is the first door from the guest bedroom and serves the main level.
A hallway between the guest bathroom and the guest bedroom displays a chart of the St. Clair River and Lake Huron. On the right is the doorway to the staircase leading to the master bedroom upstairs.
Certainly a highlight of the guest bedroom located at the front of the main floor is the view of the gardens in the courtyard. This bright, cheery room tempts you to sleep in, but morning greetings by songbirds outside will wake you if the windows are open.
A huge Master Bedroom on the top floor of the unit has an even better view of the garden courtyard through a large bay window. We love to sit here in the morning and have our coffee while listening to the birds in the trees outside.
Premium fixtures and a whirlpool tub, plus another skylight roof window make this deluxe bathroom an enjoyable place indeed.
Two wash basins get us both on the go quickly so we don't miss a minute of the exciting things there are to do in Bluewater-land.
A marina is a very social place, alive with people who are only here to enjoy themselves and escape a more urban lifestyle. In our years since we moved here back in 1997, we have had the pleasure of associating with some of the nicest, most interesting people we have ever met. Whether you are a boater or not there is always something to look forward to with each new day in this unique paradise.
